NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) races are often so close, a quick performance by a truck's pit crew can often make the difference in these tight races.

The pit crew is the team of people who service the car during a race. Each member has a specific job that they need to do well and very quickly. In fact, most pit crews can change two tires and pump 22 gallons of fuel in just 13 seconds!

Watching a pit stop can be just as fun as watching the race. Heres what to look for:

  1. See if you can pick out who's who in a pit crew.
  2. Look for crew members jumping in to do different jobs, like giving the driver a drink of water, or washing the windshield.
  3. With a stopwatch, time the pit stops of two trucks and compare the times.
  4. Watch for a truck's hood going up or someone crawling under a truck. Usually, this means the truck is having serious mechanical problems.
